As 2024 comes to an end, it feels like the perfect moment to pause, reflect, and appreciate how far we’ve come. For the land sector—and for Land App—it’s been a year of transformation. So, let’s take a look at the journey we’ve been on together and what lies ahead.

This year has been our biggest yet. It’s been about growth, innovation, and making life easier for everyone we work with. Here are a few of the moments that stood out:

Helping Unlock Resilience and Funding

We’ve stepped up to help farmers and land managers baseline their land, access funding, and plan for the future with ease. From agroforestry and woodland creation to wetland restoration, it’s never been simpler to auto-generate plans and navigate applications for schemes like the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) and Countryside Stewardship (CS). Our new validators for CS and SFI allow our users to quickly check for simple errors in their applications, possibly saving weeks of back and forth.

These tools were incredibly helpful for applications on our family farm. We’ve now applied and been accepted for Higher Tier Countryside Stewardship and SFI.

Nature Reporting: A Game-Changer

One of the features I’m most proud of is Nature Reporting. It gives farmers a way to share data on their baselines and plans with supermarkets, insurers, and banks. It’s about showing their commitment to resilience and supporting unlocking benefits like lower insurance premiums or better deals with supply chains. Read more about how our partnership with Sainsbury’s is helping them to support their farmers.

Partnerships That Drive Change

Collaboration has been at the core of our progress. Whether it’s agroforestry experts, organisations like Grown in Britain, or partners supporting hedgerow health, these relationships have helped us deliver practical, impactful tools for farmers and landowners—and tackle some big sustainability challenges along the way. Watch our webinar with Agroforetry experts here, and read about our Healthy Hedgerows product launch in partnership with People’s Trust for Endangered Species (PTES).

Taking Land App into the Field

Land App Mobile now allows users to map plans, survey sites, and work directly from the field. It’s a brilliant step forward in bridging the gap between planning on-screen and real-world action.

What’s Coming in 2025

Streamlined Defra Submissions

Next year, we’ll be ramping up our efforts to enable direct digital submissions for schemes like SFI and CS directly to Defra. We’re advocating for a ‘Making Land Digital’ framework with Defra, just like HMRC have delivered with ‘Making Tax Digital’ – streamlining the connection between private sector tools and Government for efficiency gains on both sides. With built-in rule-checkers, we’re aiming to reduce mistakes, speed up the process, and get farmers paid faster.

Doubling Down on Partnerships

We’ll continue growing collaborations both in the UK and globally. Blending and spatially targeting public and private finance is key to solving the big challenges in land use, and we’re ready to tackle these head-on with our growing partnership network.

Going Global

After launching our global framework this year, we’re looking forward to taking what we’ve learned in the UK and applying it to resilience projects around the world. We’ll make sure global case studies are available to you all, so we are all growing together as a global society

A Personal Reflection

On our family farm, we’ve used Land App to navigate everything from entering SFI to exploring Biodiversity Net Gain with Surrey Wildlife Trust, and agroforestry projects. These experiences reinforce why Land App exists: to simplify land management, make it smarter, and deliver lasting impact.

What excites me most is the collaborative spirit driving all this work. Together—with farmers, advisers, businesses, and policymakers—we’re building a system that benefits everyone. Whether it’s helping a farmer adapt to climate change, supporting supermarket’s sustainability goals or help funders get finance to land managers to make the critical changes needed on the ground in a profitable way , Land App is playing a key role in shaping the future.

Thank you for being part of this journey. This year has been a springboard, and we’re charging into 2025 with even bigger plans. Together, we can keep building a resilient, sustainable land sector that works for us all.

Here’s to an exciting year ahead!

Growing up on Norney Farm in Surrey, my early years were shaped by a profound love for farming and nature. Concerns about the farm’s sustainability sparked a journey that led me to explore property studies at Bristol UWE and delve into Permaculture and Regenerative Agriculture. These experiences abroad, particularly in France and South Africa, highlighted the pressing need for enhanced support in the land management sector, planting the seeds for what would become Land App. Following stints at Pear Technology and a groundbreaking collaboration with Geovation, Land App was born, driving innovation and connectivity in land management while fostering prosperity for farmers and the environment.
